No, it is certainly not successful for all clients. When engaging in mediation it is imperative that you come to the table with an open mind, be willing to hear/understand the other party, and have a willingness to work together. If you're unable to do this, mediation is extremely difficult and coming to any sort of agreement is a challenge.
Absolutely, sometimes when clients just cannot see eye-to-eye, we are able to accomplish partial agreements in the areas they can agree to. In the eyes of family law, obtaining a partial agreement is better than no agreement at all.
Yes - we do not mediate matters with severe domestic violence or child protection issues. These are serious matters and should be heard before a judge, in a court, and parties should be represented by lawyers.
All consultations are always free to the clients, and services rendered after the initial consultation are subject to costs. All costs and fees will be discussed with you prior to signing an agreement for services.
Yes, it can! If we learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it's that conducting virtual sessions is very convenient for most clients. We understand that finding childcare, transportation, and taking time off work is not feesable which is why we decided to continue to offer virtual sessions.
No! Northumberland Family Mediation cannot represent clients in court proceedings. We can, however, provide you with a list of local lawyers and resources to help you.
Absolutely! It's very highly recommended that you have independent legal advice (ILA) throughout the mediation process.
Each case is unique and has its own set of circumstances, which requires appropriately designated time. We believe that resolutions shouldn't be costly and we work with our clients to provide cost-efficent services. There is no way to predict exactly what the cost for your matter will be.
